A couple of months ago, Jay set out to start building our brand new table for the house.

We decided on a farmhouse table and, being the handy guy that he is, we figured it would be cheaper and more fun (for him!) to make one ourselves. We must have looked at hundreds of tables, but none of them were quite exactly what we were looking for.

Unfortunately, we didn’t really document the process all along with building it, but Jay did take the time to draw up the plans again that he created so that I could share them with all of you!

Not only that, but he also put together a rough estimate of how much the entire project cost…and it was less that $300, including a new $60 Kreg tool (which is 100% recommended for this…no nail holes!).

LUMBER

  • 2×6 ="" $6×7="" $42
  • 2×4 ="" $2.50×5 ="" $12.50
  • 2×3 ="" $2×4 ="" $8
  • 4×4 ="" $11×2 ="" $11
  • 2×2 ="" $10.25×2 ="" $20.50

After Tax about $105 in lumber

SCREWS & MATERIALS

TOTAL COST ="" ~ $230–$300 (depending on what materials you already have)

I seriously do love the table, and I think it fits just perfectly in our home. But my favorite part is the extension leaves that Jay built in!

The two end pieces of the table pull out…

And they stay in place thanks to some hooks on the bottom and the channel that was built in for the piece to slide in.

Once extended, you add in the leaves (2×12) giving you an extra TWO FEET of table!

IMG_1535

Slide it on, shut, lock in place, and you’ve now got a table just over 6 feet long!

So if you’ve ever thought about making your own table, feel free to give ours a try! And if there’s anything we left out, please just let us know and we’ll be happy to help!

We hope you enjoy!

Our First Halloween as a Family of Four

Well hey guys, happy November! Wow, time is flying! I am happy to report that we survived our first Halloween with the two kiddos. Not only that, but we even managed to squeeze in double festivities. These days, that’s sort of a big deal. The first Halloween party was happening at the boys’ ...
