To say we’re superfans of Amélie Pichard would be the understatement of the century. It was a love-at-first-sight kinda thing: from those throwback shoe shapes, cool textures and fabrics, the little crocodile that sits atop her signature handbags…we were sold. It’s funny how the French have this way of making what would otherwise be read as, say, contrarian kitsch feel inarguably chic and as necessary as, say, the perfect black turtleneck. And then Pichard (ever the irreverent French woman, y’know?) went and collaborated with Pamela Anderson (on a vegan range, nonetheless), hitting the throwback nail on the head with sexy mules, chunky flip-flops, and lots of patchwork denim. Let’s just say Luisa Opalesky would approve.
So when we finally found ourselves at Pichard’s Paris home, we’d be playing it cool if we left it at saying the designer’s IRL digs didn’t disappoint. In fact, it was everything we’d expected from the Parisian: countless Pam merch items, cool textiles mounted to the wall, endless knick-knacks, an assortment of dried blush-hued blooms, vintage ashtrays, massive bookshelves exploding with her collection of well-loved tomes. If we had to describe it, we’d sum it up as taking a trip directly to the center of her brain. Instantly, we were able to understand exactly how someone dreams up, say, a key chain with Malibu in ruby red, car culture, script and a pair of mismatched denim mules with a Perspex heel, all in tribute to the most iconic babe of the ’90s.
