Interior Decorator. New York. In Collaboration with AG.

We’ve met a lot of people over the years who have an affinity for a uniform. Fiona Byrne is exactly that type of person. The Irish transplant interior decorator is the mastermind behind the Surf Lodge’s—where we’re guessing you spent 80 percent of your weekends this summer—design refresh, and while we knew she had a thing for leather jackets and denim, we didn’t realize just how methodical a dresser Byrne really is until we paid a visit to her Lower East Side apartment.

Yeah, we were expecting Instagram-level DIY decor inspiration at every corner—floral wallpapering, gallery walls, antique finds from around the world, et al (she is an interior decorator by trade). But her walk-in closet space caught us off guard (in the best way possible). Pretty much every single item—sunglasses, shoes, and sweaters—in her impeccably organized wardrobe is red,

white, or black. So the real reason why Byrne seems to have her look down pat (all the way from her signature bleached bangs to her collection of Dr. Martens) is because she doesn’t mess around with other sartorial options. When we questioned her about the tri-colored uniform, she copped to wearing exactly that: “My standard daytime look is AG, a vintage T-shirt, leather biker jacket, and Dr. Martens boots or Vans.” What is it they say—if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it?
