Family Movie Nights

are a staple for our Friday nights. My kids start looking forward to Friday night around Tuesday, asking what movie we’re going to watch and what we’re going to have for dinner. Tonight, it’s all about Big Hero 6! We have been counting down the days until this movie came out. We were lucky enough to get to attend a preview showing last November and instantly fell in love with the movie. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt so many emotions watching a children’s movie (and trust me, we watch a lot!).

When I headed out on my weekly trip to Target to pick up the movie earlier this week, I also grabbed some Market Pantry Frozen Chicken Wings. Then I got to work planning out our family movie night, using the printable planner that you can find HERE.

Plan a family movie night

Big Hero 6 at Target

So with our Big Hero 6 movie night coming up, I wanted to prepare a fun dinner that we could all enjoy that kind of went along with the movie. Food and movies just seem to go together right? And when you think of a specific movie, it’s easy to recall a food that goes along with it. With Big Hero 6 it’s Aunt Cass’ Melt Your Face Off Chicken Wings, minus the “melt your face off” part. Oh, you can totally make these “melt your face off” hot, but my kids wouldn’t be too happy with me. The great thing about these wings is you can control the amount of spice.

Crispy Baked Chicken Wings

I’ve made chicken wings before, but I’ve never been able to perfect the crispiness until now. The key? Coat them with a little flour and baking powder! I also added some simple spices, but this little mixture coated over the wings made all the difference. They were delicious!!

Once the wings are coated in the flour mixture, place them on a foil covered cookie sheet that’s been sprayed with cooking spray (don’t forget this step – trust me!). Bake them in a 450 degree oven for about half an hour, turning them about halfway through.

In the meantime you can make your own hot wing sauce, which is basically just melted butter and hot sauce. If your family likes it spicy, add more hot sauce. Alternatively, you could leave the wings unsauced, but what’s the fun in that? If you’ve got some that like it hot and some that don’t, use two separate bowls to coat the wings. Make the sauce more on the mild side and pour some over the wings in one of the bowls. Then stir more hot sauce into the remaining sauce and pour that over the other bowl of wings to coat.

Of course you’ll want to make sure you have carrot and celery sticks to help cleanse the spicy palette, as well as some creamy Ranch or Blue Cheese Dressing for dipping. I actually like to mix the two together for a great flavor.

For movie night, we always serve dinner in these fun baskets, although I’m thinking we may need to eat these wings in the kitchen instead of in front of the movie like we usually do. I’m not to keen on hot wing sauce all over my brand new rug!
