The proposal...
Anthony proposed in Kiama while we were on a picnic. Kiama is a place that has meaning for both of us so that was the perfect setting. My Mum currently lives there so Anthony had organised a surprise engagement party at my Mums place for the day he proposed. He organised for our close friends and family to be there which was really special.
We had a long engagement (approx 18 months) as we had a 5 week Europe trip planned for 6 months after we got engaged. I didnt really start planning the wedding till we were back from Europe, so July 2014.
The dress...
My dress was actually the first dress I ever tried on. It is from Savvy Brides in Double Bay. I went to 3 bridal shops on my first day of dress shopping and tried on about 15 dresses
Wedding day inspiration...
We both wanted a relaxed and intimate vibe for our wedding. We wanted to make it personal for us and for those who know us best. The wedding theme was a combination of garden, vintage and rustic wedding.
Decor details...
Glass jars for candles were bought from Just Jars Australia (justjars.com.au), Table chalkboard numbers were from Etsy from DownInTheBoondocks supplier, Bride and Groom chair decorations were made by a friend, Light up letter sign purchased from Typo (www.typo.com.au), Card holder vintage suitcase was my sister in laws grandfathers old suitcase.
Bombonniere...
Scrabble tiles and holders from Gumtree.
Favourite wedding day moments...
The ceremony was very special, our celebrant made it so romantic while still being relaxed and enjoyable for everyone. The ceremony was completely focused on Anthony and I as a couple and what we meant to each other. It was really special. Having my brothers walk me down the aisle and see how proud they were to do so was extremely special.
Listening to the amazing speeches and feeling so loved was an amazing feeling. And lastly watching all of my brothers dancing with their wives looking so happy and in love was really touching. Everyone was high on love and it was magical. Anthony says it was seeing everyone so close to us so happy for us that was really special to him.
Marriage to us means...
Marriage to us means friendship, commitment and loyalty. It means having a partner for life to share the good and the bad times with. Someone to help inspire you be the best version of yourself.
Advice for other couples...
I (Elise) would say to take your time, enjoy the planning and create the wedding that you and your partner want, not for anybody else. We really made our wedding our own and didnt feel pressured into any decisions by any friends or family members which was nice.
