DIY Twig Monogram

This project is really simple, but it does take a little bit of time to cut all of the twigs down to the right size and attach them to the monogram. But it is a nice and easy, repetitive task that doesn’t require too much brain power, so it’s perfect to do while you watch TV.

NOTE: You want fairly straight twigs without too many knots or branches for this project. And you want them all to be about the same diameter as each other so that your finished monogram is consistent.

The step by step video below shows you how to make this DIY twig monogram, but if you’d prefer to read a

tutorial rather than watch it, I’ve shared the instructions below the video as well.

Pick any flat/horizontal end of your wooden letter and lay a twig across the very edge. Cut the twig so that both ends slightly overhang the letter below it. Apply a thin bead of hot glue to the twig and press it down onto the letter.

Find another twig about the same length, cut it down so that it overhangs the letter, hot glue it onto the letter (pressed up against the previous twig), and repeat until your letter is covered!

NOTE: Most of the twigs that I found had a slight curve to them, so I took a little extra time to try to make sure that each twig would “nest” with the previous twig before cutting it down to size and gluing it on. This helps avoid gaps where you can see the letter showing through. You could also paint the letter brown before gluing on the twigs.

If any part of your letter comes to a point like the middle of my W, you’re going to be working with really short twigs, so be careful not to burn yourself with the hot glue gun!

Once your letter is covered in twigs, hang it on a wall or set it on your mantel, and enjoy!

I hung ours on our gallery wall leading up the stairs; I love it!
